It’s Easter weekend and I hope everyone is having a good time. The weather is really nice here.
I’m pleased to report I’m 3/4 of the way through the hearing loss support program. I am learning quite a few hearing loss statistics and where to locate and find resources for those with hearing loss.
Some things I have learned: Surveys have shown cochlear implants are much more cost effective than hearing aids over the life of a person who has hearing loss. This is one reason why insurance companies are pushing to pay for cochlear implants than for hearing aids.
Only 20% of those who can benefit from hearing aids wear them. The biggest reason why not is because of vanity reasons. People just don’t want to wear them, because of the stigma associated with them.
I recently mentioned in a previous posting about the question people don’t want to ask: Does having a hearing aid help improve a sex life?
I finally saw one statistic: 8% of those who started wearing hearing aids report an improved sex life. I am sure we all agree honest communication is necessary for a such a good thing. It does not take a rocket scientist to figure out that those who are happy with their cochlear implant(s) probably will find their sex lives have improved as well.
I also have studied several other hearing loss statistics and all show that those who do NOT get some type of a device that helps hearing loss will have a lower quality of living life. I’ll discuss this more in the future.
Just the fact those who have hearing loss, even a mild one, and do not do anything at all about it, are risking higher dissatisfaction and unhappiness in living life.
Think about it. People think hearing loss isn’t a big deal, but it is.
They just don’t realize it.
