October is National Protect Your Hearing Month and it’s also Audiology Awareness Month. It’s a good month to check out your hearing for the upcoming holidays.
My DHH book proposal went out for review. I won’t hear anything until October 19th. So now I’m reading other hearing loss books and if I see anything I like, [...]

I’ll be out of town attending a blogging conference for DHH people, for a few days. It is a subject of interest for many DHH people, and I hope to share what I have learned when I get back.
One of the things I hope to share is links to other great DHH bloggers and resources.
Oh, [...]

I found out this morning that I passed the course.
So now I’m pleased to be able to help others who have issues or concerns about hearing loss via this blog and a planned, future book.
It’s an important subject, because the number of people with hearing loss is expected to rise dramatically for the coming [...]

Lately there’s been an uproar in the DHH community about the availability of captioned movies, particularly those coming out from Netflix.
There are at least two search engines that will help you find captioned first-run movies in local theaters.
One is called Fomdi, http://www.fomdi.com and another one is Captionfish, at: http://www.captionfish.com
However, it is best to visit the website [...]

You know how the local theaters have OC movies? It’s a pleasure going to them.
BUT….I have a little complaint. Why do we have to go to OC movies that are shown at weird times or during the week??? I mean, who can go to an OC movie being shown at 11 PM on a Tuesday [...]

If so, go here and sign your name: http://www.thepetitionsite.com/1/subtitlesonairlines
I mean, do we DHH people on airline flights have to sit through a movie that’s not captioned? Especially for a long flight, or a flight happening at nighttime? Please!
I’ve already signed my name, and hope you will too. They need at least 10,000 signatures.

I recently saw an ad from the House Ear Institute. It’s a very prestigious clinic that treats hearing loss in Los Angeles.
It said that 16% of the world’s population suffer from some kind of hearing problem. That’s a lot of people.
I know that number will go higher, since we are living longer.
But the good news [...]

I received an email today from WebCapTel, which is put out by Sprint.
Many DHH people already know about it, but I felt it was worth mentioning for those not actively involved in the DHH community, or are not aware of this free service.
The way it works, you can call anyone you want, and then when [...]
More Movie Trailers Are Now Showing With Closed Captions

Okay. I am back.
Now, I did some more testing on the closed captioned movie trailers on Utube.
Apparently those saying “closed captioned” are not always closed captioned on U Tube.
However, if you want to see something on U Tube that might be captioned, you CAN check to see if it is or not. You open the [...]

I am doing a quick post here today, for ALL DHH people about the TV stations switching over to digital service in June 2009.
There is a wonderful DHH website specifically for that. Please click on this: http://dtv.c-s-d.org/
You have a choice of: captioning, ASL, text reading and it has video too.
Read, and then inform other DHH [...]
