Archive for the ‘cochlear implants’ Category

This morning I was shopping at my local grocery store.
While in there, I saw a DHH woman walking down an aisle with a hearing son. It was apparent to me that she had a cochlear implant done in the past. We were surprised to see each other, because obviously we are both local. I didn’t [...]

How would you like to have a hearing aid implanted in your molar?
Yes, I mean a tooth. This particular type of hearing aid is only for someone who is deaf in one ear, like actor Rob Lowe is. This is in the research mode though, and they are looking for suitable candidates. As I understand [...]

One last textbook, one more DVD and then I take the test.
I have been reading about hard of hearing children in schools.
Interestingly, the book says that DHH children with loss of hearing in only one ear, tend to have more behavioral problems than those with normal hearing, or have hearing loss in BOTH ears. (Actor [...]

Hi, I hope everyone had a great holiday season. I was very busy, and so glad everything is back to normal.
My 13 year old daughter heads back to school tomorrow. She’s getting bored, and I need peace and quiet around here.
For the coming year, I’m going to post new DHH resources to my blogroll. I also [...]

I was having problems with my glasses, so I went to see my optician this morning. He said my glasses were out of shape. So he worked on them a while, and gave them back to me to check out.
Wow! I can see so much better. And luckily, my vision plan allowed me to get [...]

It’s good to see that Bush has signed into law the Americans With Disabilities Amendments Act of 2008. The Amendments go into effect starting January 1, 2009. Interestingly, Senator Obama was one of the co-sponsors of the ADAAA.
In the past, the courts had interpreted the ADA to be only for those with really severe disabilities, [...]
